Suspense Writing

Use the photograph above to write a suspense paragraph.  Remember to use the suspense techniques taught:

  • Short sentences
  • Slow reveal
  • Use your 5 senses
  • Simile and metaphors
  • Repetition
  • Punctuation for effect
  • Ambitious vocabulary

We can’t wait to read them – remember to be as imaginative as possible and proof read your writing for spelling before you post.

Winmarleigh was not my first residential but definitely my best. The activities were amazing. My favourite was the Trapeeze. I was the first from my group to climb all the way up the pole, which was as tall as a ships mast, and leap for the high, thick metal bar. At first I thought it would be a piece of cake but when I started to climb I was suddenly a sack of nerves. Once I had climbed up the pole I¬†stood shaking on the narrow platform at the top. My team gave me a countdown and with every number I got more nervous until “one, zero!” I leapt and I caught the bar. Slowly, I was lowered down and relief filled me as my feet were back on solid ground. I was very proud of myself and so were my friends.

I think the current year fours will enjoy Winmarleigh; I hope Grassmere will be as good! 😀
